Dreamforce 2024 Day 1 – 10 Key Highlights & Announcements

Dreamforce 2024 is in the books, and wow, what a kickoff!

In Dreamforce 2024, Salesforce is bringing together over 45,000 Trailblazers with attendees from over 140 countries. The excitement was off the charts as Salesforce unveiled a slew of groundbreaking announcements. Missed the buzz? No worries—we’ve got the highlights right here to keep you in the loop.

Let’s dive into the biggest moments from the first day!

1. The Big Reveal: Agentforce

Salesforce has made a strategic shift with Agentforce, moving away from human-in-the-loop copilots to autonomous bots that can operate independently. It’s the suite of autonomous AI agents that has taken center stage at Dreamforce 2024, demonstrating Salesforce’s commitment towards bringing in the new era of AI. Agentforce isn’t just about adding more AI to your toolkit—it’s about completely transforming the way work gets done. These new agents are designed to augment your employees and scale your workforce on demand, all with just a few clicks.

“Agentforce has to be the biggest breakthrough that we have ever had in technology and I think it’s the biggest breakthrough that I have seen in a long time in artificial intelligence”, said Marc Benioff in the Main Keynote.

Agentforce’s out-of-the-box agents are designed for effortless customization and deployment, requiring just a few clicks instead of complex coding, and can be set up in minutes. The initial wave of Agentforce includes specialized agents for sales, service, marketing, and commerce. For instance, the Service Agent goes beyond traditional chatbots by using AI to manage a broad spectrum of service issues without relying on preprogrammed scenarios, thereby boosting efficiency. The Sales Development Representative (SDR) operates around the clock, engaging with prospects, handling queries, managing objections, and scheduling meetings based on CRM and external data, enabling sales teams to focus on nurturing deeper customer relationships.

At Dreamforce 2024, Salesforce empowered attendees to build their first AI agents in minutes at the ‘Agentforce Launch Zone.’ Attendees received one-on-one guidance from Agentforce experts to develop their initial Agent prototypes using a cutting-edge AI-powered Slack app. This app interfaced with a Large Language Model (LLM), simplifying the creation of autonomous agents

2. New innovations in Data Cloud:

At Dreamforce, Salesforce showcased exciting new innovations in Data Cloud, the core of the Salesforce Platform and the foundation of Agentforce. Key updates include enhanced support for unstructured data, such as native processing of audio and video content for deeper insights; a standardized semantic data model for consistent data interpretation; improved search capabilities that consider customer context; real-time data activations for immediate responses to changing needs; and upgraded security and governance features to protect data and operations.

3. Customer 360 App Innovations

Salesforce Customer 360 apps provide a unified foundation for AI-powered, personalized experiences across all customer touchpoints, including sales, service, marketing, and commerce, with integration through Tableau and Slack. Built on the Salesforce Platform, these apps leverage shared data to deliver a seamless customer experience.

New innovations include Tableau Einstein, which enhances business intelligence and analytics by embedding data and insights directly into the flow of work. Integrated with Customer 360 apps, Agentforce, Pulse, and Slack, Tableau Einstein helps teams use data effortlessly for faster, more strategic decision-making.

Slack introduced a new user interface for agents, enabling users to interact with their data, uncover insights, and get task assistance from both Agentforce and third-party AI agents from partners like Adobe, Anthropic, Cohere, Perplexity etc. Additionally, a new Slack channel type now links Salesforce CRM records to conversations, providing teams with a unified collaboration space and a real-time customer view to stay aligned and advance their work.

4. Marketing Cloud Innovations

Salesforce introduced new Marketing Cloud features to enhance data integration and customer engagement through Agentforce and automation. The upcoming Marketing Cloud Advanced edition will offer advanced automation and AI capabilities to connect marketing journeys with sales, service, and commerce workflows, personalizing every customer interaction. Additionally, Einstein Marketing Intelligence will provide a centralized platform for managing and optimizing cross-channel campaigns, offering ready-to-use insights and automated data harmonization, enrichment, and visualization to improve campaign performance and ROI.

5. Next-Gen Commerce Cloud Unveiled

The next generation of Commerce Cloud integrates all aspects of commerce—B2C, DTC, B2B, Order Management, Payments, and more—into a unified platform powered by enterprise data and trusted AI. The update also introduces three new Agentforce Agents: Merchant, Buyer, and Personal Shopper. These agents autonomously handle tasks such as product recommendations and order lookups, eliminating the need for direct human supervision.

6. Industries AI: 100 customizable AI prompts for 15 industry clouds

Salesforce introduced Industries AI with over 100 customizable AI prompts, data models, and capabilities tailored to 15 industry clouds, all underpinned by Data Cloud and the Einstein Trust Layer. Industries AI is here to solve different pain points across 15 industries – such as optimizing inventory in consumer goods or boosting student recruitment in education. The new Industries AI features will also enable the creation of industry-specific Agentforce agents, capable of autonomously handling business tasks around the clock and scaling operations efficiently. These agents can be set up quickly and are coming soon to all industry clouds.

7. Data Governance Suite for AI Enterprise

Salesforce introduced Data Governance for the AI Enterprise, a comprehensive suite designed to enhance data management, security, and privacy. This new suite, integrated with Data Cloud and built on the Salesforce platform, helps companies meet current and future AI regulations. Key features include advanced data management tools like Salesforce Archive and Backup, enhanced data security with Database Encryption and Event Monitoring, and improved data privacy through Data Mask and Privacy Center. These tools enable businesses to better govern data, protect privacy, and prepare for AI-related policies.

8. Salesforce Ventures Launches $500 Million AI Fund

Salesforce Ventures is boosting its AI investments with a new $500 million fund, bringing its total commitment to $1 billion in the past 18 months. This fund supports AI innovators and builds on existing stakes in leading companies like Anthropic, Cohere, and Hugging Face. The investment aims to provide patient capital alongside unmatched growth opportunities and industry expertise from Salesforce’s enterprise ecosystem.

9. Salesforce’s Community Commitment

Salesforce is investing $23 million in grants to U.S. school districts and global education nonprofits, focusing on career readiness and skills development in AI and STEM. This funding will also enhance classroom technology and support nonprofits expanding AI training. Since its inception, Salesforce has donated $150 million to education. Additionally, Marc and Lynne Benioff are contributing $3 million to DonorsChoose for public education in Hawai’i, adding to their $250 million philanthropic commitment in the state.

10. Salesforce Launches Free AI Training and New Centers

Salesforce is offering free access to premium AI courses and certifications on Trailhead until the end of 2025 to expand AI skilling opportunities. New AI training centers will open at its San Francisco headquarters, including a pop-up AI Center for community courses and a dedicated floor for employee AI training. Similar spaces will be added globally. These initiatives represent a $50 million investment in addressing the AI skills gap and enhancing workforce development.
