Salesforce Spring ‘25 Release – Top Highlights For Developers

Hello, amazing developers! Salesforce Spring ’25 Release is here, and it’s packed with updates tailored just for you. Rolling out from January through February 2025, this release brings game-changing features for Agentforce, Data Cloud, Apex, LWCs, and more. Get ready to supercharge your Salesforce development journey—let’s dive in for the top highlights!

Agentforce Updates:

Agentforce allows you to customize pre-built agents or create and deploy new ones seamlessly across Salesforce apps, Slack, websites, and third-party platforms. Top Agentforce updates we are looking forward to are:

  1. Support in Scratch Orgs: Now you can create agents using Salesforce’s generative AI features, including Prompt Builder, Model Builder, and Models API within scratch orgs. You need to set up a generative AI scratch org and assign permission sets related to the features you want to build with. For example, you need Prompt Template Manager permission sets to work with Prompt Builder.
  2. Agentforce Testing Center: Building and deploying AI Agents does not promise that they will deliver reliable output in real world scenarios. The new Agentforce Testing Centre allows you to test your agents in bulk to improve their performance, ensuring they select the right topics and actions. This empowers you to auto-generate test cases using AI or upload custom test cases. Future enhancements include integration with Salesforce CLI and APIs.
  3. Agent API & Agent Versions: With Agent API, you can invoke Agentforce headlessly from other agents and applications. With Agent Versions, you can create and manage up to 20 versions of your agent for testing and troubleshooting without disrupting active versions. Both of these features will roll out in the February monthly release.

Data Cloud Updates:

Salesforce continues to enhance Data Cloud, empowering developers with tools to build a unified data foundation. Key updates include:

  1. Data Cloud One Supports Enrichments: Add information from Data Cloud to Salesforce CRM record pages via related lists or a copy fields feature. This feature will be available in February.
  2. Prompt Templates Grounded in Data Graphs and DMOs: Use Data Cloud data graphs and Data Model Objects (DMOs) to create richer, more insightful prompts. Data graphs consolidate data from multiple systems with the help of a centralized dataset, now accessible in Prompt Builder, offering a 360-degree view of customer data.
  3. Platform Encryption for Data Cloud: Data Cloud uses AWS-managed keys to encrypt data at rest. With Platform Encryption for Data Cloud, you can create a root key in Salesforce, unique to your org. This root key secures the encryption keys that protect your data, giving you full control over encryption. Maintain control of your encryption key chain for enhanced data security.

Apex Enhancements

Apex developers can leverage these new features for better performance and flexibility:

  • Compress and Extract Zip Files: File compression will no longer be a problem. Use the Compression namespace to handle zip files directly in Apex. Keep in mind Apex’s heap size limits when working with larger files. So, always test your code and find the max size of the files you can work with.
  • Changes to Long-Running Apex Request Limits: Concurrent Apex requests limit is now based on the number of licenses your org has. Example: An org with 4,000 licenses gets a limit of 40 concurrent requests (1 request per 100 permits). Maximum cap: 50 requests for orgs with over 5,000 licenses.
  • Dynamic Formulas in Apex: Use the FormulaEval namespace to create and evaluate dynamic formulas. It supports accessing polymorphic relationship fields and referencing standard/custom lookups in formula fields. This feature is now generally available.

LWC Enhancements

Lightning Web Components (LWCs) get several updates to streamline development:

  • Local Development is now GA: Preview LWCs for Lightning Web Runtime (LWR) sites, mobile apps and Lightning Experiences instantly with hot module reloading and WebSockets. Now it is supported in Spring ’25 sandboxes and scratch orgs.

SLDS 2 is coming:

  • Salesforce has announced its next UI theme: Cosmos, currently in Beta with limited availability. The latest iteration brings updated tools and applies to base LWC components, changing internal DOM structures. Build UI components with themes that adapt to future changes using SLDS 2. Also, use the SLDS Validator extension to check compliance and get suggested fixes for smoother transitions.
  • LWC API Version 63.0 Updates: With this update, TypeScript developers will benefit from improved TypeScript type checking for @wire configurations and reactive properties, automatic removal of extra whitespace in JavaScript selectors for consistent formatting.

Platform Development Tools

Agentforce for Developers gets several upgrades, making it easier to write and optimize Salesforce-specific code:

  • Agentforce for Developers: Expect several important updates in line including improved context understanding for Inline Autocomplete. This considers metadata schema and related Apex or LWC files for smarter suggestions, test case generation, LWC code optimization for accessibility, style, and offline functionality and Code Analyzer for actionable suggestions for errors caught during code analysis.

APIs and Integrations

Enhancements to APIs and integrations offer better performance and flexibility:

  • Bulk API V2 Query Notifications: Use the BulkApi2JobEvent platform event (Beta) to receive job progress updates, eliminating the need for polling.
  • Event Relay is now part of second-generation (2GP) Managed Packages: This feature enables seamless event streaming to AWS without the need for custom integration apps between Salesforce and AWS. Simplify your architecture and enjoy faster, native connections.
